About Us

FluoretiQ Limited

FluoretiQ Limited (FQ) was founded to solve the £1.1 Bn problem of using broad spectrum antibiotics as a place holder for accurate diagnosis of infection.

Working at the interface of microbiology, chemistry and engineering, we are developing diagnostic tools to rapidly identify and enumerate bacteria from clinical samples. Our vision is to ensure that patients receive the most effective antibiotic treatment from day one.

Saving Time

Today’s tools for the identification of bacterial infection can often leave patients waiting 3 days for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Our technology platform reduces the time taken to identify bacterial to 15 minutes- 200x faster than the microbial culture.

Saving Money

The direct and indirect cost of using empirical antibiotic treatments has been estimated at £1.1 Billion. With rapid diagnostic testing we enable clinicians to prescribe targeted treatments within the first consultation.

Saving Lives

Delays in effective diagnosis lead to multiple GP visits, long-term antibiotic use, and hospitalisation. With point of care diagnosis we can reduce the risk of disease progression  .

Mathew Kyriakides, Lead Microbiologist

Mathew ‘s ambition is to make a significant scientific contribution in the war against antimicrobial resistance by way of developing new methods for fast, one-step bacterial diagnosis. Mathew joined FluoretiQ in 1 st July 2019 (date) to lead the microbiology function and develop new methods to streamline the NANOPLEX™ process. His initial mission is to prepare superior quality samples without the need to use pre-processing, equipment such as centrifuges that can reduce the quality of the sample. Before joining Fluoretiq Mathew worked at SGS MScan as a graduate biochemist, within the protein characterisation team, quickly rising to become a Director of Studies to ensure GMP compliance. From here Mathew moved on to work as a Bioanalyst within the Bioanalytical team at the North Bristol NHS trust. This role, working in partnership with the EU’s IMI initiative to assist the development of novel antibiotics in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, involved Mathew developing and validating bioanalytical assays. Mathew has an M.Sci from the University of Nottingham.
